May 27th 15 weeks 2 days

Today we had a doctor's appointment. It went a lot better than the first one. This doctor was actually in an office and not what appeared to be a house. There is also an ultra-sound in the office (which I guess is rare in Brazil). The doctor spoke English, although not as well as I wanted, but I guess I need to lower my standards a little. She actually touched me, and took my blood pressure and weight (64.3 kilos or 141 pounds). I really thought that I would weigh a lot more. It seemed that over night I went from "Am I really pregnant? Where is this baby?" to " Oh my gosh I am a whale." I dont have the baby bump, I am just looking a little chubbier in the belly. I still fit in my old clothes but I dont like the way I look. I have always been a jeans and tank top girl, even in the winter, but now I have the desire to just wear a trash bag. Shopping is not my favorite thing in the world, and I was hoping to wait until July, when I am in California, but I may have to go do a little maternity clothes shopping here.
We have another appointment on Wednesday. This one is our 16 week ultra-sound, where we can hopefully find out if we are having a boy or girl. We are excited of course. It is always exciting to see the baby. I am also excited to feel it move, which I should feel in a few weeks. My sister says around week 18. I think I feel little things, but I cant be sure.

May 20th 14 weeks

So I am in my 2nd trimester!!! Thank goodness! Sorry I haven't been updating recently... we finally moved into our new place. We are renting a brand new apartment in a neighborhood called Sacoma. We live right across the street from a supermarket, home store, churrascaria and the metro. We are on the 16th floor and have a wonderful view of southern Sao Paulo. Although we are on the 16th floor we still have a noise problem. We are also across the street from a major highway and a bus terminal, and the windows dont seal, so we are trying to figure out what we can do! Right now we dont have cable, a fridge, oven or sofa, but we do have (a slow) internet connection. It is a small 2 bedroom apartment, with a large balcony (which we will use when the weather gets warmer...) We are excited to start our new life here.
I have been sick this last week. I got a stomach bug on Friday that must have knocked out my immune system, because by the time I recovered from that I came down with a head cold. I have been sneezing like crazy, which Leto thinks must be fun for the baby. I still have no appetite, but now i get a little weak if I dont eat once an hour. I am still waiting for the cravings, and pigging out to come. I do want to eat things, like fish and chips or Pizza Hut pizza, but then if i think about it for too long i start to become disgusted by the thought of eating it... The baby has also decided that it doesnt like grape juice. Which is not good for me, because i love grape juice, and now it limits even more what I can drink.
I am starting to get a little bigger in the belly, but my arms and legs are getting smaller. I have no idea how much I weigh (i havent weighed myself in over 10 years...). We need to buy a scale and keep track of my weight gain. One thing I am scared of is gaining too much weight, not because of vanity, but just because pregnant women dont need to gain sooooo much weight. It is easy not to over eat when I dont want to eat anything but we will see what the 2nd and 3rd trimester bring.

May 10th 12 weeks 6 days

We had our second ultra sound yesterday! We got to see our baby, and it actually looked like a baby! The technician said that everything was normal. The little heart was beating 154 beats per minute. It was even moving! The legs were crossed, and the hands were next to the head. Leto said it was just kicking back, relaxing. Leto already thinks that it looks like him. I said "All babies look like that!" But he is convinced! The technician told us what sex she thought it was but we decided not to tell anyone until they are 100% sure! I have a little poll to the right, so take a second and vote for what you think our baby will be, a boy or a girl!
I am still feeling a little sick. I almost threw-up this morning... I thought this would end the 12th week, but i guess it will last a little bit longer. Of course I am super tired. If i can, i take 2 naps a day and try to shut my eyes by 1030 at the latest. I am waking up a lot during the night. Some times to pee, some times to move, but most times because I am having strange dreams... Not any about the baby yet, but still strange. Last night was the first time i felt pregnant laying on my stomach and i had to turn to my side. It was a strange feeling. And even today i touch my lower belly and it feels different, like there is something in there!
I have told some of my child students and there reactions have been so cute! One of my students' birthday is our due date. He asked me "What time?" and i laughed and said "who knows!" He was born at 8:39 Nov 16th, so he wants it to be born then. Others say I should name it Kathy II or Leto junior. They are adorable!
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers. Some people said Happy Mother's Day to me, but i wont consider myself a mother till I hold the little one in my arms for the first time!
