Sept 22nd 32 weeks 1 day

Sorry I haven't updated in 2 weeks! Time has gotten away from me!
So one week ago we had out doctor's appointment to talk about my blood results. Turns out I do have gestational diabetes. I was able to see the test result online before the doctor saw them so i prepared myself. I was super happy with my doctor's reaction. She didn't make me feel bad about it. She said everything will be ok, I just need to watch my diet. I know that my doctor in California would have made me feel horrible about it. I/we are very very happy with our doctor. She is adorable and super nice. So I have had to alter my diet. I wanted to eat healthier and now I have to! This does hurt my ice cream craving... but now it is less than 2 months to go. That's not too bad right?? I do have to check my blood sugar 4 times a day, which gets annoying. Just one more sacrifice for our baby! Cant complain!
My doctor also said that she tested for my immunity against Rubella and Hep B, both I had the vaccines for. She said that the vaccines didn't take and that I am not immune to either of them. She says I need to get these vaccines again... after the baby is born. I have never heard of this. Maybe there is something off between US and Brazilian measurements. I dont really want to get the vaccines again.
We finally found our crib. It is a crib with changing table attached and a "nanny" bed underneath. It is super cool and now my mom has a place to sleep when she gets here! The only problem is that it takes 30 working days for it to arrive, plus 7 more working days to have someone put it together. I am really missing the American way of furniture where you buy, take and put together yourself! Hopefully the crib is ready before the baby is ready to make her appearance, but we cut it really, really close!
We are slowly putting together our baby stuff. We put together our stroller, which was fun. Of course Leto did most of the work because it is almost impossible for me to get low to the ground, and then be able to get back up!
She is moving a lot, which I love. The doctor said that her head is down, getting ready! Most of her movement is above my belly button. We can feel he back or her butt a lot of the time. Leto says "Its hard!" I say "Yes I know!" The doctor said that I am also having "painless" contractions. I have been feeling them off and on for a while but I didnt know what it was. With all of the pregnancy websites out there no one really describes what a "painless" contraction feels like. It is a feeling that is hard to describe. She said that they are normal, and they dont hurt so I dont mind them.
I have been bugging Leto for about 2 months now to write something for the blog. He was hoping that I forgot, but I haven't and he says he will have something written tomorrow! So check back soon for Leto's thoughts about me being pregnant and our baby!

Here is my 32 week belly pic! Getting pretty big!

30 weeks!

Today we are 30 weeks! Only 10 more to go... hopefully less... but not too many less ;-)

I had my gestational diabetes blood test yesterday... the 3 hour long test. It was not fun. I fainted and scared Leto half to death. The nurses said that it was pretty common with the prego ladies. A woman fainted right before me, and another woman came back for her 2nd try because she fainted the last time and couldnt complete the test. I was able to complete it and will get the results on the 11th.

For the last couple of days we have been prepping the baby's room for painting and today we finished it! It looks really good. Of course it isnt perfect, but it is perfect for us, and will be perfect for our baby girl! It is VERY pink, and just how I envisioned it!

I have been doing great. I am getting a little more tired everyday, but everything else is fine!

Here are some pics of the baby's room!

August 24th 28 weeks!

So today starts our 3rd trimester!
We are very lucky and have a friend, Ricardo, who works for Samsung and sells 3D ultrasound machines. They have the machines in their office and use them for demonstrations, so we were able to go to the office and have a 3D ultrasound, for free! It was an amazing experience to see our little girl (yes, she is still a girl, and yes i will have them check EVERY time we have an ultrasound!!). She was sitting down, with her hands in front of her face and even a foot in front of her face. She moved around and we were able to see her face very clearly! I think she has Leto's nose and my chin. Here are some 3D videos, I hope they load properly!

Leto says she is eating

She looks like she is opening her eyes, kinda scary!

Here are some more pics that Leto's sister, Sol, took

27 weeks

When I left Sao Paulo in June my belly was 92cm now it is 102cm!!!!
27 weeks. I cant wait till I get bigger and the pics will be even better!
Thursday is Leto's 33rd birthday! We will have an ultrasound at the doctor's office that day! I am sure I will post more pics then!
I have my gestational diabetes test on Sept 6th. Apparently here they do the 3 hour test for everybody so I get to not eat for 8 hours, wake up super early because the appointment is at 6:10AM, and sit in a clinic for at least 3 hours! Yikes!

Until next time!

August 17th 27 weeks

Wow I dont know where to begin! I haven't written in quite a while! All I can say is that I have been busy!
Leto arrived in California on July 26th. It was great to see him, and for him to see me and my big belly. The first thing he said was how gorgeous I was. (He is so cute!) I think he felt the baby move that night... We left the airport at about 2am, so we were all very tired when we got back to Costa Mesa. The next day we drove to San Diego with my sister. He definitely felt the baby move there, and we got to try out our fetal doppler and hear her heart beat. It was pretty amazing but I dont think she liked it. It seemed like she would move away from where ever it was.

San Diego
After San Diego we went to Costa Mesa, then to Indio, where we celebrated our first anniversary (Aug 1st)! It was a great night. Leto and I aren't much for celebrating any type of anniversary so we just had a nice dinner at Beer Hunter and then we went for a stroll around Desert Springs Marriott. (Where I used to work about 100 years ago!) It was a lovely night! It has been the best year of my life and it seems to only be getting better. Everyday I love Leto a little more. It is the best feeling in the world. And to know that he is going to be a wonderful father fills me with joy and hope that I will be as good a mother as he is a father!

Desert Springs Marriott!

1st Anniversary at my parents pool! Then it was off to Las Vegas. Las Vegas was interesting pregnant. Actually it was the opposite of interesting. It was boring! I haven't been sad or depressed about the fact that I cannot drink, but Vegas got me a little sad that I couldnt partake. I haven't been to Las Vegas and not drank for about 8 years. I was a little sad for Leto because I knew he wanted to go crazy and have fun, but I just couldn't fake it.

Las Vegas
After Las Vegas we went back to Indio and after a couple days of relaxation and swiming in my parents pool we went back to Costa Mesa. Leto went to his first baseball game and we saw the Angels win in the 10th inning, and the Big Bang Fireworks after. The baby was fine during the fireworks and didnt jump at all!

Angel's game
I had a bachelorette weekend in San Diego for my good friend Alison. That was a little sad too. Everyone was drinking and dancing and I couldnt do either. When I try to dance I have to hold my belly or there is a lot of pressure, and nothing is cooler than a pregnant lady dancing and holding her belly, so I decided to take a lot of pictures! We went to a drag queen show called Lips but I called it a night after that while the rest of the girls went out dancing.

The 17 of us (and our waitress/waiter???) celebrating Alison at Lips
When I got back from San Diego Leto, Brenda and I made a trip to Babies R Us to finish buying all the baby goodies. We got back to Indio and started to pack. At first it looked pretty bleak. Like nothing would fit. Then Roland busted out his huge sports duffel bag, and Leto got EVERYTHING to fit. I was so happy and relieved. We had to pack the baby stroller, car-seat, rocker and playpen, plus a ton more little things, all in 4 pieces of luggage and we did it!
After a couple more days in Indio we said goodbye to our friends and headed back to Costa Mesa. We went to Alison and Jacques' beautiful wedding in Dana Point on Friday Aug 12th. Then we headed to LAX for our flight Saturday night. By total coincidence Leto and I were on the same flight as Alison and Jacques to Panama. They planned their honeymoon for Panama and just happened to be on our flight! It was so nice to chat with them at the airport and a little on the red-eye flight, and wish them a happy honeymoon at the Panama airport.

Mr and Mrs Jacques Chenier The flights were a little rough for me. The second flight was definitely worse than the first. I just couldnt get into a comfortable position. Anf the 6 hour flight seemed to take 12 hours! But we finally landed in Sao Paulo with all of our luggage and got through customs with no questions asked. We got to our apartment at 230 in the morning, and I woke up at 11am to get ready for work! It was so funny to go to work and see everyone's reaction to my belly. I wasn't showing at all before I left and I was gone from work for about 2 months, so my belly grew a lot! The littlest students were the funniest because I hadn't told them I was pregnant before vacation because they are really beginners at English and I thought they wouldnt understand me if I tried to explain it. So when they came into the class and saw my belly their jaws dropped and said "Voce ta gravida????" (Are you pregnant?) And I said yes. Some thought that I was just 2 months pregnant because that is the amount of time I was gone. It was very cute.

Of course we did a ton of other things but this blog has gone on too long already!

The baby has been moving a lot these past few days. I am not used to walking to the metro and then to work and the baby puts a lot of pressure sometime and I almost have to stop walking and wait for it to pass. I hope she gets used to me walking more! She is also moving a lot while I am teaching. Maybe she likes hearing my voice!

My friend Yada gave me some good advice while I was in Indio. Her mother (mexican mother ;-)) Told her that it is good for the baby to bond with the father if you lay on the bed with your bare belly pressed against his bare back. The first time we tried this almost instantly she started kick or punching his back! It was amazing and he could feel it too. So we have done this almost every night. She is really active when we are talking to each other. She really doesnt stop moving when we are in this position and we are talking. It is a great feeling, and I know she is bonding with her daddy!

I'm sorry this post was soooooo long! The next post will be shorter and sooner!

July 25th, 23 weeks 5 days

I am almost in my 24th week! Things have been pretty great! Recently, like in the last week and a half, I have had some trouble sleeping. Waking up to go pee of course, but also not being able to fall asleep so easily. I have also had a pain in my left hip that has now moved to my left groin, which has made it quite painful to move while I sleep and even to get up from sitting. I hope this goes away fast because I look like an old lady when I stand up and try to walk! Other than that I am great, and growing daily it seems!

New babies!
Since I have been home I have gotten to meet two new babies! Both were born to Melissas.

My friend Melissa and her son Ryder (along with good friends Alison and Angela) And my cousin Melissa finally got her girl!Charity is so precious!Congrats Melissas!!!!

Leto finally gets to California tomorrow night! I am super excited of course. We have been apart for a whole month! I cant wait for him to feel and see the baby move! I know he will be beyond happy to feel his little girl move! We have a busy couple of weeks planed while we are both here. We will start of in San Diego, then go to the OC, go to Indio for a couple of days (including our 1 year anniversary!!!). Then its off to Vegas, then back to the OC (I get to go to Alison's bachelorette party, and Leto gets to hang out with my family!) Then its back to Indio and finally Alison and Jacques wedding in the OC. We fly back to Sao Paulo on Aug 14th.

Here is a pic of me at ~24 weeks. If you compare it to my 21 week pic you will see a pretty big difference! I changed positions a little, I am facing the camera at more of an angle here. I want to say that is the reason I am so much bigger, but I think I have "popped" There is no going back! My body will never be the same again! Yikes! Hahaha.

Well, today is July 25th, and over the years I have come to know a lot of people who call this day a happy day, birthdays and anniversaries, but for me it will always be a sad day, the day my brother died. 14 years is a long time to miss someone. I think about him everyday, although a little less every year. I really wish that he could have been at my wedding last year. I think he would really love Leto and my new family (Leto's family). I also really wish he could meet his new niece in November. I know he is here in spirit, but I still miss him!

Baby Shower

My sister and my mom threw me a wonderful baby shower yesterday. It was great to see good friends and family. The baby got many wonderful things like a playpen, stroller and car seat, and a bunch of cute tiny clothes. Now the only thing we have to worry about is packing all of the stuff in our luggage to take back to Sao Paulo! It will be difficult but I think we will be able to make it work! Here are some pictures from the baby shower

My sister had cute M&Ms made with a picture that Leto's sister Sol took. It is Leto's face and my belly!
My mom came up with a great baby shower game. There were baby words in Portuguese and English and we had to match them. I got all of the right!
Mommy's girl!
Love my mom!
My wonderful family (and Robyn) Cousin Laurie, Cousin Melissa, Aunt Ruth, and Grandma Hazel!
Thank you so much Mom and Bren, for a great shower! I love you guys!

July 12th 21 weeks 6 days

We are almost in our 22nd week! Time is sure going by fast. My second trimester has been pretty nice. I have been feeling her move a lot more, from the inside and the outside. I haven't let anyone feel her move because I am waiting for Leto to get here so he can be the first one to feel her. It is hard for my sister because she see me react to feeling the baby move and I know she wants to feel it too (and by react, I mean jump, it scares me every time!). She will have to wait a little longer! Leto arrives on July 26th.
I feel like my belly has grown a lot too, but it may just be in my head. Some days I feel absolutely huge and other days I feel pretty normal. I know I have been eating a lot since I have been here in California, but I have missed this food so much! I have been walking almost every evening with my sister which helps me feel better about eating so much, but I have a pain in my left hip that makes it a little painful to walk fast (and the heat here doesn't help either).
Here are some pics!

Me and my friends at a 3rd of July beach day. (Ang and Ali!)
Patrick and Bridget at a 4th of July celebration at Mariner's Park in Newport
4th of July BBQ (where i feel huge)
Backyard water fun with Bridget!
About 21 weeks. This was a "thin" day!
