So here is our labor and deliver story! I just copied and pasted from my journal, so it is a lot, and a lot of detail! I omitted somethings due t o graphic nature :-)
Ceci is here! Wow I cant believe it! And she is absolutley perfect!!! So here is the story!
We woke up at 530am on Friday Nov 18th and got ready and headed to the hospital! We arrived at the hospital at 635 and checked in by 730. They took me in to the "sorting" room where they monitered the baby and took my vitals and got me ready. At 815 we were taken to the pre-labor room, the induce room. At 820 they took my blood and put in the iv and started the pitocin. Leto was going to go get my mom and take her to our room but I was feeling bad, like i was going to faint so i told him to stay a little bit. I almost fainted again, the nurse layed me down and I felt better after about 10 minutes. At 900 they put the monitor on my belly to watch Ceci and my contractions. At about 920 I started to feel light contractions... I thought. They felt just like the braxton hicks contractions. At about 1210 I called Bren on skype and the contractions started getting strong. They were like braxton hicks contractions but they hurt! They funny hurt not, gonna cry hurt. After about 10 minutes of talking to Bren we hung up and I went to the bathroom and we went for a walk around the pre-labor wing. I thought it was weird that the contractions stopped hurting when i was walking around. We get back to the room and i lay down and the painful contractions disapear... back to just braxton hicks contractions. They up my pitocin a little but it doesnt work. At 2pm Dra Katia shows up and examins me. She says my cervix is dilated to about 1. I thought it would be about that. We talked for a little and she said if we keep this up I wont have the baby until the early morning and probably after having to have a c-section anyway. So we decided to up the pitocin and see where we ware in an hour. The contractions start getting a little worse but not bad like when i was talking to Bren. So i knew when Dra KAtia came back at 3 that we would be going in for a c-section. After 2 i was a little sad and a little worried but after 3 i accepted it and i was not sad or worried but kinda excited. So she said she would go look for an operating room. At about 325 they came and got me to take me to the OR. Leto left and took the things to our room. I got to the OR and saw Dra Katia, Eva and the anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist spoke better english than dra Katia and Eva which was very comforting! They said that they wanted to start the anesthesia and that it was better if Leto waited outside because it is pretty traumatic for the husbands. I reluctantly agreed and they got started. Dra Katia was holding my up in the sitting position. Dont get me wrong, it hurt but it was more awkward than painful, just not knowing exactly what he was doing. My legs started to get warm and then i couldnt move them or really feel them, just a warm sensation. Leto finally arrived and they started without me really knowing it. The anesthesiologist was talking with me and joking with me and said "Can you smell that. Its a Kathy bbq" I didnt really smell anything, thankfully! So after about 10 or 15 minutes after they cut me open they said "She is almost here!" Leto got up (he was recording the whole thing...) The anesthesiologist said he would push on the top of my belly, and man did he push hard! There was some talking and then I heard her. I heard my baby cry! I started to cry, which i didnt know I would do! It was such a happy emotional cry it was amazing. She was born at 3:52pm. Dra Katia showed me her all cheesy and then took her away. She cried a little more and then was pretty content. I was just laying there in shock and just supper happy. After a few minutes, when they were weighing her and cleaning her up they brought her over and kinda layed her next to my shoulder. I think this is when they turned on the live webcam for everyone to see. I couldnt see her very well but it was so great to finally see our baby. Leto came over and sat next to us. After about 5 minutes they put her in the daddy sling. The rest of them putting me back together seemed like it took forever! But i was happy because I was with our baby. It felt weird and uncomfortable but everything went pretty well. They said something like they had a little problem with my bladder and there was some blood but it already started to clear up, so it wasnt a problem. They said that i would need to use the catheter for a little longer. So they finished me up, and we took pictures and then EVERYONE left me! Leto went to go see the baby in the nursery and the doctors left. I was completely alone in the OR for a good 3 minutes. I was like "this is interesting, they all just left me minutes after surgery and if something happened to me nobody would know"... Well thankfully nothing happened to me and the nurse came in and started to get me ready to be taken to the recovery area. Thankfully they said I would be taken strait to my room and I wouldnt need to stay the couple of hours in the recovery area. I stayed for about 15 minutes. It was strange to be a big room with other pregos and women who had just had their babies. They took me to my room and my mom was there. I felt ok, still numb in the legs but by the time i got to the room i could wiggle my toes. I think I got back to the room at about 530. They didnt bring me Ceci until around 8. Ligia came and saw me before they brought me Ceci and then right after they brought me Ceci Leto's entire family came in. I was so happy I didnt notice that there was like 10 people in my room. All of the ladies got to hold her. Everyone was super happy. Cadu and Brian came too. I think it was about 9 when everyone left except for Ligia. Ligia left at about 930 and then it was just me, Leto and Ceci! We didnt put her down. I held her or Leto held her. Then they came and got her at about 1145. I tried to get some sleep but i dont think i slept at all. Every time I heard a baby cry I thought it was Ceci and I wanted to get her. They brought her to me at about 330 and she was wide awake and looking right at me. The nurse helped me breastfeed and it worked for about 20 minutes. It was such a strange feeling, but i was happy she was able to latch on.
So as of right now our baby girl is 5 days old! The first night home was a little rough, and i think i only slept for 45 minutes, but last night was a lot better. She eats, and sleeps and is awake, eyes open, not eating, for a very little amount of time. Leto is a great father. He worries a lot which makes me more calm. (Usually its the other way around!!!) My mom is a big help and comfort. I think i would be a lot more stressed and worried if she were not around!
Opps looks like Ceci is about to wake up! Im happy she let me update the blog! I have posted a lot of pics on facebook, more than i can upload here of course, so take a look at my facebook page.
