Things are going well! Ceci has started to take her first steps by herself! she will take anywhere from 1 to 5 steps then collapse into me with a big hug and a huge smile on her face. It is such an amazing feeling to see her grow and learn new things everyday.
She was pretty sick last week. We took her to the doctor and she said Ceci probably had bronchiolitis. Similar to bronchitis but it is super common in children under 2. She is back to 100% today, so we are relieved! It was horrible to see her sick, but luckily that only lasted for one day.
Friday was Dia das Criancas (children's day). It is really celebrated in Brazil. Children get present from their parent and maybe grandparents and aunts and uncles. This is very different from the states where I dont even know when Children's Day is, and I never recieved a present when i was a child. So I didnt buy Ceci a present, but then on the day of i felt a little guilty so Leto and I went to the mall with Ceci to try and go to the toy store. We got there before it was opened and there was about 100 people waiting for the toy store to open. So we decided to go to another, cheaper, store near by and we bought her a little ball house. She loves it. There are 100 balls and she needs all of them to be out of the box! Its quite a workout for me to round them all up, and then 30 seconds later she dumps the box and there are balls everywhere again! But she loves it. She even has a little noise specific to her chasing a ball. Adorable!
We have been to a lot of birthdays recently. It seems like every weekend there is at least 1 birthday! I have been enjoying planning Ceci's first birthday. It will be butterfly theme, and I have a lot of cute ideas that I hope will work out. In Brazil (i think just recently) 1st birthday parties are a big deal! People hire professional photographers and videographers and cater everything. They have these parties at places called buffets. I think the closest thing in the states would be a private Chuck-e-Chesse or a place like Pump-it Up. They have a lot of little rides, video games etc. It is really crazy the amount of money parents spend on a party their one year old wont remember. But to each their own! I have chosen to plan and do everything for Ceci's party except for the food. I think we will buy some big sandwiches and maybe cater some "kid food" and we will have the party in our "party room" of our apartment building. Her birthday falls on a long (5 day) holiday weekend, so we will see how many people can make it. People from Sao Paulo love to leave Sao Paulo on long holiday weekends, especially if the weather is nice!
